Little Boys Breakfast

Last Thursday we planned a little breakfast get together in Walnut Creek. I met up with Julie and Jen and we all brought our little boys.
Julie brought Rocco who is really no longer a little boy, but getting to be quiet a little man. I can't believe how fast he has grown in just a little over a year! He is showing off his cute blonde hair/blue eyes with his new teeth and his distinctive grunt. That guy will be talking in no time but until then he lets you know when he is trying to tell you something.
Jen introduced us to Carson for the first time. Carson is five months. What a happy, smiley little guy who looks just like his daddy with those long gorgeous eye lashes. He is very entertaining at this age.
We cooed, giggled, and showed off our boys, then Barrett took a nap because his new friends wore him out.

Julie, Jen, and I got a little girl talk in after we had already discussed the hot topics of tummy time, sleeping patterns, and baby poo. All in a day in the life of a glamorous mommy!

Finally...Some Tummy Napping

At our 2 month well baby visit Dr. T told us that Barrett was getting a little flat head. He said try to get him off his back and have him spend more time on his tummy. Of course since that visit those words have been repeating over and over again in my head and I am now totally paranoid that I am giving my precious baby a flat head. I don't want my Mr. Man to have to wear one of those helmets to correct flat head. Uncool! So...I have been obsessed with getting him off his back as much as I can. Easier said then done, Dr. T. Barrett really hates tummy time and most of the places that Barrett loves have him on his back; his swing, his playmat, his carseat/stroller, and I can't hold him ALL day.

Finally today, after numerous failed attempts all week, I was able to get him on his tummy for a little nap. He fell asleep on my chest and after about 10 minutes he was in a deep enough sleep that I could peel him off and lay him on his chest. He only lasted here about 45 min, but that is 45 min. of this day that he wasn't on his back!!!

That Baby Needs to Share

Until Barrett's arrival, our three kitties were the babies of the house. We are still trying to give them lots of attention so they don't feel left out, but apparently they are thinking ...why is it that Barrett gets such plush accommodations? Stinker says 'I'm gonna get in on that'

Jupiter

We spent Saturday in Berkeley hanging out on the back patio of Jupiter. It was warm, but we had a table in the shade and Gina, Cheri, and Gareth met us for a late lunch and a few drinks to quench our thirst. I feel pretty lucky that our social life didn't die with the arrival of Barrett. And it's great to meet friends for lunch because everyone wants to hold Barrett and that means that Mommy and Daddy can actually have some free hands to eat. We even got Gareth to take the big man this time...so cute!

Gina brought her baby too...her new iPhone that I can't believe she ever lived without because now she cannot put the damn thing down. ...And if Gareth and Cheri keep this up they will have a baby of their own...

Who is this 'Jabba the Hut' guy?

Mommy keeps calling me 'Jabba', who is this Jabba the Hut guy? She says we have a few things in common; like the fact that I really have no neck at this point because my cheeks cover it, and I love to stick my tongue out all day.

CA Academy of Sciences

It was play day with Auntie 'Lissa, Landon, and Tatum today. It was 103 degrees in the East Bay yesterday so there was no way we were hanging out here and Melissa suggested we go to the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco. Barrett and I packed up early and headed into the city for the day. It was pretty exciting! Barrett got his first glimpse at penguins, sea dragons, fishies of all kinds, sharks, turtles, and the albino alligator. He was very alert for most of the trip except for a small cat nap in the peanut shell.
Barrett was memorized by the aquarium. We sat there for 10 min. or so and not a peep as he just stared into the tank and watched the fish swim by. It was pretty amazing to watch!

Landon has been there and done that with all of the exhibits, he is there for the Toddler's Cove, a cute little play area for all the little ones. Here's a picture of him pouring water for all the thirty sailors on the boat. What a nice guy!

We couldn't leave without a souvenir from the gift shop so Mommy bought Barrett "Claude" to take home. Claude is the 13 year old albino alligator living at the Academy and now mini Claude is living in Barrett's nursery. He seems to like his new friend and took his afternoon nap with Claude on his tummy...

Pouty Face

This is what Daddy and I lovingly refer to as 'pouty face.' Barrett is a pretty good boy and rarely throws a tantrum, but he lets you know when he is unhappy and needs something by showing pouty face, where he sticks out his bottom lip and whimpers. If you are quick and cater to his need (food, dirty diaper, pick me up, or I'm sleepy put me in my swing) this is all you will deal with...if you don't march to it you will get the cry!

2 Month Well Baby Visit

Barrett and I just got back from his 2 month well baby visit at the pediatrician's office. Dr. Trujillo says Mr. B is a healthy little man and he is impressed with his development milestones. Here are the new stats for our Baby Bear compared to his five week visit:
  • Weight - 14lbs, 1oz (90%) up from 11lbs, 4ozs
  • Height - 24" (90%) up from 21 3/4"
  • Noggin' - 16 3/4" in the 87% up from 75%
We did get three pokes today. Poor little guy! Barrett was a trooper. The nurse poked him and he turned bright red and opened his mouth, but there was no noise. It was one of those cries that is so hard they can't get the sound out at first and then finally...WHHAAAAA! I teared up, but tried to be strong for him. He only cried for a couple of minutes after I picked him up and then he calmed down. He continued to stick out his pouty lip and whimper a bit, but I thought he did really well. He was a pretty sleepy baby for the rest of the day, but no fever. I'm sure he already forgot about his traumatizing morning and like my friends say...it was probably harder on me then on him.

Saturday in SF

Our little family spent the day in San Francisco on Saturday. Our friend Jason was visiting from Madrid and we wanted to catch up with him. We hadn't seen him in awhile and we had to introduce him to Baby B (or William Wallace as J calls him). It was a gorgeous day in San Francisco! We met Jason and Aidymar at the Ferry Building for some lunch outside on the patio of the Market Bar. Followed lunch with some Ciao Bella Gelato - YUM! and then walked it off in the city.

Mr. B was sporting his Huskers gear since it was College Football Saturday. Barrett's support didn't quite work...tough loss for Nebraska.

Baby Massage

Once a week Barrett and I get up in the morning and do his baby massage. I'm sure as he gets older it will be harder to get him to sit still for this long so I am taking advantage of the fact he can't get off his back yet. He loves getting his little feet rubbed, just like his mommy (hint, hint Daddy). Every week gets better. He is really smiling at our faces now so while I am massaging him he looks up at me and giggles and smiles. It is so precious!

Representing YT

Barrett and I crossed the San Mateo Bridge on Wednesday and met up with my old friends at YouTube. We had bought something special just for this occassion. Barrett was so proud to show off his YouTube onesie and represent! He was such a good boy at lunch. I was happy he stayed awake and was engaging with everyone.

I think he made a new friend in Santosh. He carried him around and was making him smile. I wish I would have got a picture, but Santosh was carrying him around allowing me to eat and I was stuffing my face so I didn't break out the camera.

Daddy, Tuck Me In

I snapped some cute shots of Daddy and Barrett while they were getting him ready for bed. He is so alert now and it is fun to watch the two of them interact together. They were having some sort of conversation and then Barrett was ready for bed. When he gets sleepy he lays his head on your chest and just sort of stares off until his eyes get too heavy and he gives in.

We have a pretty good nighttime routine finally. He dozes off anytime between 7:30 - 9PM for his first stretch. I try to get to sleep between 9 - 10PM. Jeff wakes him up before he goes to bed around 11ish and gives him a nice, big bottle to fill him up. He'll sleep a good 5 hour stretch then and I feed him at 4AM. It works for us now, and we are all feeling pretty rested...for now.

Let's Give Them Something to Talk About...

Barrett was pretty sleepy and tired this weekend. He wasn't being very talkative or smiley. He had really just started doing a lot of smiling this week and I hoped everyday would bring a lot more, so I was pretty bummed. Monday morning rolls around and...Boy this guy has a lot to say today! He loved spending this morning on his playmat talking to his friends in the Rainforest. It is just too cute, I had to share...

San Ramon's Saturday Farmer's Market

We spent a few hours today at the San Ramon Farmer's Market. It was a gorgeous day, a little rain in the morning to clear the air, and then sunshine again. Daddy took me for a ride in my Bjorn while I checked it all out. After Mommy and Daddy got some yummy heirloom tomatoes and strawberries we went by the Petting Zoo and to the Tractor Museum that is on the farm. Looks like I will be having a lot of fun here when I get older.

We saw some old Cat dozers that we knew my Grandpa Fort would love. He runs his own dozer back in Nebraska that someday I will ride in. We think Grandpa will want to see the Tractor Museum when he comes out to visit.

Unexpected Trip to See Dr. T

I took Barrett in to the Dr. Trujillo today to have a look at the rash that he developed on his face, head, and neck a little over a week ago. I thought it was just baby acne at first so I tried not to panic. I read that baby acne coming on at 6 weeks-ish was totally normal. Then it got red and blotchy and really pimply everywhere and started to spread. People started telling me, not baby acne a rash of some sort. Jeff and I have been searching online all week trying to diagnose; is it just baby acne? heat rash? ruebella? etc... I couldn't take it anymore so I e-mailed the Doc and he said if it appeared to bother Barrett bring him in. I didn't think it was a problem for him, but then this morning he scratched his cheek in two spots and was rubbing the back of his head against everything he could come into contact with. So...we went in.

Apparently Baby B just has a bad case of acne combined with seborrhea dermatitis better known as cradle cap. Dr. T gave us some over the counter topical treatments and said it should clear up in 5-7 days. I really hope so, it doesn't look too fun for Barrett. I took some pictures, but Barrett is just too proud and asked me not to post them.
