A Visit from Sandy and Rachel

Last Sunday Sandy and Rachel made a special trip just to visit me. I was a good boy for them all day, they were so impressed! Mommy told me to be on my best behavior because this was an important visit. I needed to convince Rachel how you can have a good, easy baby so that she will hurry up and get pregnant already. I think I did a good job.
After a visit at the house we all went to lunch at Cafe Esin. I slept the entire time and let the ladies enjoy their lunch. Just like old times, they enjoyed a glass of wine, cheese plate, and yummy dessert.
Another good sign for Rachel that your life doesn't have to change completely...

Tummy Time

Dr. Trujillo told me that I really needed to work on my Tummy Time before my next appointment at 5 weeks. I am trying, but sometimes I am just not in the mood. It is hard work. The other day I just told Mommy, with a very adamant cry, that I was not doing it today.

Mommy understands what I mean, she says it is very similar to the feeling she gets when she thinks about going back to the gym.

A Visit from Aunt Holly and Uncle Doug

Aunt Holly and Uncle Doug came by to meet Baby Barrett last weekend. They had heard all the news and seen all the pictures but needed to hold the real thing. Aunt Holly said she didn't want to put Barrett down. She misses when Kylie and Jake were babies, but now they have two amazing 'grown up' kids!
Uncle Dougie, who is an expert Daddy, showed us a few new techniques. Jeff said it was nostalgic to see Doug and Holly with our baby. We remember visiting them after Kylie was born and watching them as new parents.

The Archers were in our neck of the woods because they were looking at homes in Tracy. Uncle Dougie has a potential job in the area. We hope he takes it and we can have them 30 min. away. We would love to have our friends close so we could spend more time together and watch our kids grow up. We're keeping our fingers crossed!

Fish in Sausalito

Last Saturday we jumped in our car seat and headed out for lunch at Fish with Cheri and Gareth. We have been wanting to go to Fish for over a year now. The last time we tried I was so disappointed, we showed up only to find they were closed for the entire month of January.

It was a gorgeous day in the North Bay, warm and sunny. We sat outside (in the shade of course to protect our precious baby skin) and enjoyed the food and the company of the witty couple. We always thoroughly enjoy Gareth's lessons on words, phrases, and etiquette from the English culture. And I'm sorry Cheri, I have to agree that the accent is sexy!

Evening Strolls...

We have been trying to get out in the evenings after Daddy gets home from work and take evening strolls. It has been getting pretty hot out here in the East Bay which makes it hard to go for walks during the day. Our UppaBaby stroller (which I absolutely love...) came with a bassinet attachment so we lay Barrett down and hit the road. He loves being outside and is usually very content as we cruise around the neighborhood. It's good for Mommy to get out of the house and get moving too, we have a few more lbs to shed to get back to pre-baby weight...

My First Bottle

Barrett was served his first bottle the other nightfrom his Daddy. It was a rough day for Mommy feeding him on demand every hour or hour and a half. He must have been going through a little growth spurt. I just couldn't imagine he could still be hungry so I thought he must have drained my milk supply for the day and he wasn't getting enough each feeding. I felt so bad thinking he was still hungry and not going to get anything from me so Jeff broke out the first bottle. He drained 2 oz in no time flat!

I was a little upset because people say you should hold off on offering the first bottle until your baby is 4 to 6 weeks old. I now realize what people say and what you do are not always going to be in sync. Every baby, every situation is different. Sometimes you do what you have to do and just go with it...

Sleepy Smiles

While we love it when our little man is awake, some of the best moments with Barrett are when he is sleeping. Jeff and I love to watch our baby's sleepy smile. I've been reading up on why newborns smile in their sleep and no one really knows; dreams, memories, reflexes, even gas they say. I don't care why, I'm just happy he does it.

QT with Daddy

I have been spending some quality time with my Daddy. He is on leave from work for two weeks and he has been taking really good care of me. He is staying on top of his reading on how to make me the happiest baby...

I love to cuddle up and sleep with him.

And lately he has been helping me with my tummy time so I can exercise my neck muscles and grow big and strong!

Bath Time

My Mommy tells me I am a pretty messy eater; she calls me milky face. Then combine that with the fact that Mommy and Daddy didn't start the 'pointing it down' until I taught them a few lessons...I was in dire need of a bath.

I really like my infant tub. The pediatrician said I can't soak in the tub yet until my belly button stump falls off, so I sit in my sling and get my sponge bath. For the most part, as long as you don't take too long I don't mind bath time.

My First Dr. Appt.

Yesterday I had my first Dr. appointment on my two week birthday. Dr. Trujillo was very impressed with my weight gain. He says that is the most important milestone at the two week visit. I am 8lbs, 13 ozs already. I am in the 51% percentile for weight. I haven't got much taller yet, I was born at 20" and now I am 20 1/2", which is the 28% percentile. They measured my noggin too, and I have a ways to go there, I'm only in the 9% for head circumference. Mommy called me 'beetlejuice.' One thing is for sure, I still have big feet like my Daddy...

My First Photo Shoot

Barrett has already started his career as a super model at 9 days old. Mommy and Daddy's friend Binh came over to the house and he had his first photo shoot. Binh took so many great photos, we were happy to help her get the most out of all those expensive lenses. Her little girl Tatum came along and was the photographer's assistant...such a good little helper.

We can't wait to get the finished photos to use for our birth annoucements. Here are a few of the photos that Binh posted for us as a sneak peek...

I'm Pretty Popular

My first few weeks at home have been pretty busy. We have been trying to figure out our new routine which for me consists of eating, pooping, peeing, and sleeping. I think it is a little harder for Mommy and Daddy to come up with a schedule to work around all that pooping and peeing.

I've also been squeezing in a lot of visits from family and friends. I have met a lot of new people since I arrived...I'm pretty popular. I hope I can remember all their names...

My First Days

I wanted to post the announcement on the Blog as soon as possible so you all knew Barrett was here. Now that I have some more time (this little man is so tired so I can clock some blogging hours while he sleeps) I'm going to go back and recap our first week as a family and post a few more pictures.

Barrett has been an amazing baby at home. He is a great eater! He was born 7lbs, 8ozs, and left the hospital at 7lbs, 2ozs. As of last Thursday he was already above and beyond birth weight and is now 7lbs, 14ozs! He's a growing boy.

All that good eating makes him pretty sleepy. It is the cutest thing when he rolls off after a feeding and goes into a food coma. We are lucky parents, right now he is sleeping 3-4 hours between feedings which gives us enough time to get some sleep as well and stay on top of things around the house.

More to come, it has been a busy week of visitors so I want to post pictures of all of the new friends I have met...

He's Here!

We are so excited to annouce the arrival of Barrett Scott Rosenlund. He was born on Thursday, July 16th at 10:29AM at John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, CA. He was a healthy baby boy weighing in at 7lbs, 8ozs, and measuring 20in.

Mommy and Daddy had a really good birthing experience, 11 hours from start to finish. My water broke at home Wednesday night at 11:30PM. We loaded up our bags and headed to the hospital where I finally felt my first contractions. We were checked in to the hospital at 12:30AM on Thursday. Since my water broke, they wanted to speed things along so we started on potosin, and boy does that stuff work!!! My contractions really started coming and coming strong so I said lets do the epidural at 3AM, no need to suffer...right? The epidural was actually the event I was fearing most, but it was amazingly fast and I barely felt a thing. After that we enjoyed 6 hours of painless bliss and Daddy got in a good long nap. At 9:30AM she said it's time and an hour later we were holding our son.

He remained nameless, just Baby Rosenlund, for two days. We were going back and forth between Tristan and Barrett, and Daddy could not make a decision. After spending some time with him, we finally decided that he was a Barrett.

We feel truly blessed! Thank you to everyone for your well wishes, we can't wait for you to meet him.
